Most of us would love to have our childhood recipes and memories bottled up in a jar, serving as a reminder of a sweet time in our lives. Naimah Spencer, not only did it, but made a business out of it. She calls it My Momma’s Kitchen. Now, the country can come to her momma’s kitchen and enjoy her family’s recipes.
How did you get the idea for your business?
I always had a passion for cooking, ever since I was a little girl. My Momma would cook in the kitchen and have me sit right by her side and soak up as much as I could. As I got older, I gained a deep appreciation for her cooking and baking – especially when I was in college and couldn’t find anything like it. After graduating from Xavier University with a major in Entrepreneurial Studies and moving back home, it hit me! My Momma’s food was a must for all families, not just mine. Her food was made with a love and talent that is so hard to find anywhere. I decided I’d start with her cakes. The only problem was that they were too big to ship to family across the US! After researching ways to downsize the portions and ship them safely to all states, we never looked back.
