Ho
w did you start your business?
I started business with my sister in 2011. We took over an existing business that I had worked at as a sales associate while attending Miami University. We ran the business as it had been for the most part for three years and decided to undertake a major renovation and rebranding. We chose the name Lane & Kate which is our middle names as well as the names shared by many grandmothers and aunts through our family. We chose to move our store from Oxford to OTR with our florist friends at Two Little Buds. Together we are a jewelry and botanical boutique specializing in carefully curated jewelry from established artists known for their quality handmade, sustainable pieces as well as emerging designers.
Where is Lane & Kate and where can we find you?
Lane & Kate is a jewelry store featuring high quality pieces created locally & domestically by independent artists or artisan groups. We believe that wearable art should tell a story – stories of origin, of skilled hands carefully molding & sculpting – stories that continue when our customers take the pieces home and live life in them. Our artists are known for their quality and sustainably made jewelry. We also offer custom made pieces for special occasions. We offer a hands on experience designing a piece of custom work sure to become future heirlooms.
What are your future goals?
Our future goals include a new website! We are looking to expand our collection of jewelry lines and add to our custom jewelry experience. We would like to add a bench jeweler to our store to meet with our custom design clients in person as well as offer basic repair needs in house. Investing in quality jewelry can be an intimidating experience and we would like to add to our system to encourage a sense of comfort and understanding of the process.
What have you most enjoyed being a part of the LAUNCH program so far?
I’ve enjoyed many parts of the launch program, but my favorite has been the speakers. Each week I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing different topics relayed in a useful and encouraging way. I can see how I can use these topics within my own business.
What has benefited your business the most?
I believe the most beneficial part of launch for my business has been the assistance with financial planning and the one on one meetings with my mentor. It’s been great having someone to keep me accountable to implement what we’ve discussed each week into my business.
