How did you come up with your business idea?
Francie, my business partner, came up with this idea when she was in high school! I used her babysitting service and saw a way that we could partner together to turn her service into an app and make it easier for families to connect with responsible student babysitters!
What exactly is your business?
SaferSit connects high school and college students with local families looking for babysitters and petsitters via our website, SaferSit.com and soon to be web app!
How did you find out about Aviatra?
I had seen friends post about it on Facebook! I thought Aviatra would be exactly what SaferSit needed to get up and running!
What is your inspiration?
We are very inspired by the local women in our community who are also part of the start up world! It takes a lot of effort, grit and humility to be able to take a small business to the next level. We want to be just like the other women who have a made a mark in the tech startup community!
What has been your biggest accomplishment with your business so far?
Our biggest accomplishment this year has been quadrupling our numbers! We are astounded at how much we have grown in 2017!
What was the most valuable thing you gained from your experience?
The most valuable thing we have gained from this experience is the gratitude we receive from happy parents and sitters. We have so many people who regularly tell us that “SaferSit changed their lives” – those kinds of statements make our days worth it!
Do you have a mentor? In what ways did they help you?
Yes!! Carlin and Rebecca! They always give the best advice! It’s nice to walk into a meeting and have Carlin with us. Starting a business is hard. It’s nice to have advice from people you trust that have your best interest in mind. Our mentors are a great sounding board when we are deciding next steps!
Any advice for future Aviatra?
Do not give up! Competitors are good. They validate what you are doing. You just have to stay one step ahead! Also, make sure to look into local resources for legal advice and mentors!
